Movie Review: jaane kahan se aayi hai

Star Cast of Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai: Riteish Deshmukh, Ruslaan Mumtaz, Jacqueline Fernandez, Vishal Malhotra, Sonal Seghal, Farah Khan, Satish Shah, Supriya Pilgaonkar

Director: Milap Zaveri

Whereas most film makers in Bollywood are obsessed with love stories because they feel that a romantic film sells in over here, what the directors need to understand is that if they really want their viewers to watch love stories, they need to offer something different. This time with Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai, a love story between a man from Earth and a woman from Mars, director Milap Zaveri has come up with a love story that is not only different but can also be enjoyed to some extent.

The film has its lighter moments in the first half, which tend to make you laugh. But, then comes the second half where the story tends to get serious and is filled with a lot of emotional moments that you usually see at the climax of most Bollywood movies. Unfortunately, the problem with director of the film Milap Zaveri, who has written many hilarious Bollywood scripts in the past, is that he displays a unique command over humor but when it comes to emotional stage at the climax, his story tends to lose the grip. Same holds true for his direction also.

The first half set around the film industry works well and makes you laugh time and again. But then, it is in the second half of the film, where the romantic relation between the lead pair of the film takes the front seat, you as a viewer tend to feel bored. There was probably no need for the director to turn a hilarious comedy into a love triangle and make the viewer feel that they are watching the same old story that they have seen million times in a Bollywood movie.

This film is the story of Rajesh [Riteish Deshmukh), a young Gujarati boy, who has been looking for love since many years. His wish for true love ultimately gets fulfilled when he comes in touch with Natasha [Sonal Sehgal].

The story of Desh [Ruslaan Mumtaz] is somewhat similar to Rajesh, who despite being very successful and being loved by so many people, is still a lonely soul because he cannot find true love. The world of both Rajesh and Desh changes when an alien girl from Venus, Tara [Jacqueline Fernandez] lands on earth looking for her true love.

As long as the story in the first half revolves round a loser, his funny father and a friend, who is obsessed with sex, Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai is an enjoyable movie.

A big problem with the film is that it not only loses focus but also becomes senseless in the second half. It is difficult to understand why a girl cannot express her love to the man she likes, why she has to go all the way to another planet to find love and why she suddenly develops human emotions.

Though on an overall basis, the direction of Milap is good, he has a tremendous command over comedy and the light hearted scenes have really been filmed remarkably well.

Attar Singh Saini’s cinematography and Sajid-Wajid’s music work well for the film.

Ritesh has once again shown with this film that he is developing well as an actor. He not only performs well in comic scenes, which by now have become his trademark and specialty, he also looks good in emotional scenes. Jacqueline and Satish Shah have performed their roles with complete ease. Other actors in the film including Supriya Pilgaonkar, Vishal Malhotra, Ruslaan and Sonal Sehgal have all done justice to their roles.

Farah Khan has also done well in her small role. You can also see Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra and Sajid Khan in small friendly appearances in the film.

Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai is a light hearted film for the youth, which makes you laugh in the first half but unfortunately becomes a usual boring Bollywood film at the climax.
